DHSS and DCF Commissioners to Highlight NJ Home Visitation Program

New Jersey Department of Children and Families (DCF) Commissioner Allison Blake and Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) Commissioner Mary O'Dowd will visit the Central Jersey Family Health Consortium, a non-profit organization serving Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Somerset, Monmouth and Ocean Counties, as well as the Plainfield portion of Union County. CJFC implements a Home Visitation system which provides pregnant women and parents with early linkages to evidence-based home visitation services and other community-based programs.

New Jersey is the recipient of a $9.4 million federal grant to expand home visitation services to help at-risk families with an array of health and social services. The grant will specifically support an expansion of the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) program in the Department of Children and Families. This will allow New Jersey to expand programs for perinatal screenings and risk assessments to promote earlier identification and coordination of services for families who reside in at-risk communities.

At CJFC, the Commissioners will discuss current home visiting models and overviews of particular programs such as Nurse Family Partnership, Somerset Parents as Teachers, Healthy Families - Middlesex/Somerset Counties and Perth Amboy, and Parent Child Home.

Commissioner Blake will then accompany Home Visitation Staff on a specific home visit.
