Health Commissioner Visits Monmouth Family Health Center Highlights Increased Funding to Health Centers in the FY13 Budget

On July 20, Health Commissioner Mary E. O'Dowd will visit the Monmouth Family Health Center in Long Branch to highlight increased funding for Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) to care for uninsured and underinsured residents.

Monmouth Family Health Center CEO Marta Silverberg will lead a tour of the site for Commissioner O'Dowd and New Jersey Primary Care Association President and CEO Kathy Grant Davis.

The tour begins at 12pm in the lobby of the Monmouth Family Health Center, 270 Broadway, Long Branch.

"Monmouth Family Health Center and our network of community health centers are an essential part of our health safety net for those who otherwise would not have a medical home," said Commissioner O'Dowd. "Governor Christie's budget provides $50 million to New Jersey's community health centers in this year's budget-a record high in funding."

Last year, Monmouth Family Health Center served more than 14,000 residents with a total of 50,500 patient visits.  The state provided $1.5 million to the Monmouth Family Health Center to provide care to uninsured and underinsured residents.

Statewide, more than 430,000 patients are treated each year in 20 Federally Qualified Health Centers with 98 licensed satellite sites. Seventy percent of those who receive health care in FQHCs are women and children. The total number of patient visits each year exceeds 1.3 million.
