Department of Health Makes Form Available to Request Additions of Qualifying Conditions to the New Jersey Medicinal Marijuana Program
The Department of Health today posted the petition form to request approval of additional debilitating medical conditions to be added to the New Jersey Medicinal Marijuana Program. The Department will accept petitions from August 1 through August 31.
“The New Jersey Medicinal Marijuana Review Panel will evaluate each petition based on scientific and medical research available,” Health Commissioner Cathleen Bennett said. “This process builds on the medical model, which is the backbone of the state’s program.”
The Panel will meet to review the petitions on a date to be announced. Petitioners may address the Panel at that meeting. The Panel will then make a written recommendation to the Commissioner. The Department will post the Panel’s recommendation on its website and host a public hearing before the Commissioner makes a final decision.
Currently, approved debilitating medical conditions include: amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, terminal cancer; muscular dystrophy, inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease and terminal illness. The following conditions apply, if resistant to, or if the patient is intolerant to, conventional therapy: Seizure disorder, including epilepsy, intractable skeletal muscular spasticity and glaucoma.
The following conditions apply, if severe or chronic pain, severe nausea or vomiting, cachexia or wasting syndrome results from the condition or treatment thereof: positive status for HIV, acquired immune deficiency syndrome and cancer.
