Department of Health Proposes to Readopt, with Amendments, the Cancer Registry Rules at N.J.A.C. 8:57A

The Department of Health (Department), in consultation with the Public Health Council, today proposes to readopt N.J.A.C. 8:57A, the Cancer Registry rules, with amendments.

N.J.A.C. 8:57A establishes standards by which the Department implements and maintains the New Jersey State Cancer Registry (NJSCR), and identifies the diagnoses that hospitals and other healthcare providers must report.

The Department is proposing technical and substantive amendments throughout the chapter.

Proposed substantive amendments would revise electronic reporting standards for consistency with those of the National Program of Cancer Registries of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the United States Department of Health and Human Services.

The CDC makes available free reporting software. Proposed amendments would explain how hospitals and other healthcare providers can obtain that software through the Department.

Other proposed amendments would modify required reporting times to align with industry practices, and identify penalties and enforcement procedures to address reporting delinquencies.

The notice of proposal appears in the April 16, 2018, issue of the New Jersey Register. Persons wishing to comment on the proposal must submit written comments on or before June 15, 2018, either (1) electronically at http://www.nj.gov/health/legal/ecomments.shtml, or (2) by regular mail postmarked on or before June 15, 2018, to Joy L. Lindo, Director, Office of Legal and Regulatory Compliance, New Jersey Department of Health, PO Box 360, Trenton, NJ 08625-0360.
