New Jersey Department of Community Affairs | New Jersey DCA and EDA Invite Public Input on Opportunity Zone Nominations The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority today announced the opening of a public engagement period to gather input on eligible census tracts that may be considered for nomination under the federal Opportunity Zone program. Sherrill Administration Announces Statewide Housing Resources Ensure No Veteran Has to Go Homeless Governor Mikie Sherrill today joined the Department of Community Affairs (DCA), Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), and military veterans from across New Jersey at the Trenton War Memorial to announce that, through the Bringing Veterans Home initiative, the State created a coordinated support system that fully funds housing resources so no veteran has to go homeless. The initiative makes veteran homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring in New Jersey. Now, more veterans enter housing in New Jersey than enter homelessness each month, and the initiative is sustaining this performance consistently.	2026/07/29
NJHMFA sells $40 million in state tax credits to fund affordable housing initiatives and announces Fall Auction The New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (NJHMFA) sold $40 million in tax credits to several corporations to fund affordable and workforce housing development. This program is the first of its scale to be offered by any state and increases NJHMFA’s ability to respond to the housing affordability crisis by increasing the available supply of housing for New Jersey families.	2026/07/27
Governor Sherrill Signs the Forbidding the Algorithmic Inflation of Rent (FAIR) Act Into Law to Protect Renters from Algorithmic Rent Setting Governor Sherrill today signed the Forbidding the Algorithmic Inflation of Rent (FAIR) Act into law, establishing additional protections for renters by explicitly regulating the use of algorithmic rent-setting practices that artificially inflate housing costs. New Jersey Sues Trump Administration to Block Illegal Changes to Funding Addressing Homelessness - New Jersey Office of Attorney General The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is attempting yet again to add unlawful conditions to funding intended to address homelessness, including by drastically cutting funding for permanent housing, a move that would result in tens of thousands of people losing their homes. New Jersey Department of Community Affairs | New Jersey’s Office of Eviction Prevention Selected as One of 11 States Awarded $100,000 through Eviction Data Response Network The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) today announced that its Office of Eviction Prevention (OEP) has been selected for enrollment in the Eviction Data Response Network (EDRN), a highly competitive national initiative led by the Future of Land and Housing program at New America. New Jersey Department of Community Affairs | DCA Awards Omnibus Eviction & Homelessness Prevention (OEHP) Grants to Support Households at Imminent Risk of Eviction or Homelessness The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA), through the Office of Eviction Prevention (OEP) and the Office of Homelessness Prevention (OHP), today announced the award of more than $7 million in Omnibus Eviction & Homelessness Prevention (OEHP) grants to 12 nonprofits across New Jersey experienced in homelessness and eviction prevention. AG Davenport, Division on Civil Rights Announce Renewed Enforcement Focus on Protecting New Jerseyans From Housing Discrimination and Expanding Housing Opportunity - New Jersey Office of Attorney General Attorney General Jennifer Davenport today announced that the Office of the Attorney General and the Division on Civil Rights (DCR) are renewing their enforcement focus on protecting New Jerseyans from housing discrimination, expanding housing opportunity, and driving down the cost of housing in New Jersey. Governor Sherrill Signs Executive Order Bringing Government Together to Accelerate Housing Production Governor Mikie Sherrill today signed Executive Order No. 17, a whole-of-government approach to accelerating housing production and increasing access to housing opportunities for New Jerseyans. Attorney General Davenport Leads Bipartisan Multistate Call for Federal Action on Rental Housing Fee Abuses, Puts New Jersey Landlords on Notice of State’s Application Fee Cap - New Jersey Office of Attorney General Taking action to promote housing affordability for all New Jerseyans, Attorney General Jennifer Davenport is leading a bipartisan coalition of 27 attorneys general urging the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to propose a rule that regulates hidden and deceptive rental fees. Attorney General Davenport is also publishing guidance putting landlords on notice, and vowing to crack down on violations, of New Jersey’s new law imposing a $50 cap on rental application fees charged to prospective tenants, which goes into effect on May 1, 2026.	2026/03/18

Governor Mikie Sherrill Issues Six Executive Orders on Day One Governor Mikie Sherrill today hit the ground running on her first day in office – taking historic executive action to lower costs, protect our kids, and make Trenton more accountable and effective for the people of New Jersey. At the swearing in ceremony in Newark, she signed two executive orders following through on her promise to declare a State of Emergency on Utility Costs on Day One.
