Housing Resource Center – Affordable Housing Search Tool
The Housing Governing Council launched an improved affordable housing search interface of the Housing Resource Center (NJHRC). The NJHRC is a free, online searchable registry of affordable and accessible housing units throughout the State of New Jersey, including affordable rental housing, affordable for-sale housing, and housing with accessibility features. This improved interface is the first step in a multi-step process led by NJHMFA, DCA, and NJIA to overhaul the HRC to make the process of finding and applying for affordable housing faster, easier and more equitable.
Affordable Housing Construction Program Inventory
Housing programs have historically been fragmented across State government. This directory brings together eighteen affordable housing subsidy programs for builders. The directory and inventory of State programs is a first step in efforts to streamline application processes and requirements across State agencies.
Cross-Agency Housing and Economic Development Mapping Tool
Historically, housing and economic development mapping tools have been disaggregated across many State agency websites. The Housing Governing Council’s created a home and library for mapping and planning resources across State government, so users no longer have to visit multiple pages and can easily identify relevant resources.

NJ HOMES - ROAD to Housing Compliance Support Tool
The recently passed federal ROAD to Housing Act requires each Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) grantee to maintain a public database of the undeveloped land owned by the jurisdiction by October 1, 2026. DCA has begun to compile this information on behalf of municipalities in a publicly available database in the NJ HOMES Choice tool. DCA will continue to work with municipalities to verify and maintain the relevant information.
Database of State and Federally Subsidized Units
The Governing Council has launched an effort to inventory affordable housing properties subsidized by federal, state, and local dollars across New Jersey. This initial database inventoried thousands of affordable units financed by NJHMFA, DCA, and DHS and initiated a wave of outreach to property owners and municipalities to preserve properties and expand the housing inventory.
Permitting Dashboard
To increase speed and transparency in the State’s permitting process, New Jersey is piloting an online permitting dashboard that helps developers, businesses, and nonprofits track their permit applications in one place. The pilot is focused on 10 housing, energy, and commercial real estate projects. It will scale to include a greater number of projects and project types throughout 2026.
