Haley Opens South Jersey Light Rail Office in Riverside

Transportation Commissioner and NJ Transit Board Chairman John J. Haley, Jr. today announced that he has opened a Southern New Jersey Light Rail Transit System (SNJLRTS) office in the Burlington County community of Riverside to serve as an information clearinghouse for the project.

"We are making a concerted effort not just to provide information to the public, but to have a presence in the area so that we can facilitate a clearer understanding of the benefits of this very important public transit project," Haley said. "The location of the office is adjacent to the light rail alignment, close to where the Riverside station stop will be located. This should prove to be an invaluable resource to the community.

"This light rail system will create a corridor of invigorated economic development for the region while allowing residents in the riverfront communities easier access to neighboring towns and from Trenton to Camden. In addition, the system will connect to the Northeast Corridor in Trenton and provide direct access to Philadelphia via the PATCO line," Haley continued. "Providing residents of the region convenient access to current information is part of our ongoing effort to work with the communities along the route to make the rail line the best we can. I sincerely believe the more people learn, the more likely they will be to share our enthusiasm for the project and the positive impact it will have on the future of the region."

Haley said the office, called the SNJLRTS Community Information Center, is located at the Zurbrugg Facility, 1 Hospital Plaza in Riverside. The office will be open week days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The office will be open from noon until 8 p.m. Wednesdays and from 9 a.m. until noon on the first Saturday of each month. The center’s toll-free telephone number is 1(888) 313-6989.

"Using the old Zurbrugg Hospital as a location for the office perfectly illustrates adaptive re-use of an existing facility, something the light rail line historically encourages," Haley added.
