Route 9 detour to begin on November 4


The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will close Route 9 in Lakewood from Saturday, November 4, to Friday, November 17, due to construction work. The following detour will be in effect:

Northbound Route 9 traffic will turn right at James Street, left onto New Hampshire Avenue, left onto Route 88, and back on to Route 9 northbound. Southbound Route 9 traffic will turn left on to Route 88, right ont o New Hampshire Avenue, right onto Pine Street and left onto Route 9 southbound. Timing changes will be instituted at all eight traffic signals along the detour route.

The work being done is part of the project to upgrade the Lake Carasaljo dam and improve drainage along the highway. The Transportation Trust Fund project began in August, 2000, and is scheduled for completion in October, 2001, at a cost of $4.7 million.
