Regional resurfacing contract to address
deteriorated pavement on Route 17
NJDOT to improve more than five miles in Bergen County
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that a regional maintenance resurfacing and roadway repair project to address two sections of Route 17 in Bergen County has begun construction this week.
NJDOT will mill and repave deteriorated sections of asphalt and concrete roadway the following locations:
• Route 17 in both directions from the southern terminus of the highway at Route 7/Belleville Turnpike (milepost 0) in North Arlington - through the interchange with Route 3 - to the vicinity of Pierrepont Avenue (milepost 4.54) in Rutherford Borough.
• Route 17 in both directions from near Route 120/Paterson Plank Road (milepost 5.8) in East Rutherford to just north of the Carlstadt border with Wood-Ridge Borough (milepost 6.5).
The $6.1 million contract will improve motorist safety and extend the pavement lifespan along the full width of the roadway at each location, including all travel lanes, turn lanes, shoulders and median openings. All utility hardware (manholes) will be rest within the roadway to improve final surface course rideability. The highways will be restriped and new image-detection cameras will be installed at selected intersections along Route 17 to replace the existing underground loop detectors.
NJDOT’s maintenance contractor, Della Pello Paving Inc., has already begun initial construction activity - drainage and curb work - at the northern end of the project limit this week. The work will be performed under the allowable lane closures schedule, maintaining at least one travel lane in at each location during peak period travel hours. Access to all businesses will be maintained. All work in the contract is expected to complete this fall 2013.
