1998 CONSERVATION EDUCATION AWARDS PRESENTED

New Jersey Assistant Secretary of Agriculture Samuel Garrison and the first vice president of the New Jersey Association of Conservation Districts Clifford Lundin, presented the 1998 Conservation Education Essay and Poster Contest awards today in Trenton. This year's theme was "Improving the Environment Around My School." A certificate of merit and a savings bond was presented to the first, second and third place winners in each of the three grade level categories of the essay and poster contests. The annual contests are sponsored by the NJDA's State Soil Conservation Committee, the New Jersey Association of Conservation Districts; the Natural Resources Conservation Service, USDA and the Rutgers Cooperative Extension. The contests highlight the importance of helping youngsters develop a deeper awareness of our natural resources and the importance of managing them wisely.
