New Jersey State FFA Association Elects New State Officers at 72nd Annual Convention

Highlighting the 72nd annual New Jersey State FFA Convention in New Brunswick recently was the election of the State FFA Officer team, the FFA members who will provide leadership for the coming year in the New Jersey FFA Association. The 2001-2002 officers are: State President - Mike Brooks, 19, Woodstown FFA, Elmer

  • Mike is majoring in environmental and business economics at Cook College, Rutgers University, where he is currently a sophomore. He served as the 2000-01 State FFA Secretary, and he continues to develop his supervised agricultural experience program in the area of vegetable production.

State Vice President - Erin Zukus, 19, Allentown FFA, New Egypt

  • Erin is a sophomore at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, PA, majoring in agricultural education. She was the 2000-01 State FFA Reporter, and her supervised agricultural experience program includes greenhouse management and working for NJDA.

State Secretary - Sara Colson, 18, Woodstown FFA, Pilesgrove

  • Sara will attend Pennsylvania State University, Abington campus, in the fall, to major in agricultural education. She was the 2001 NJ FFA Member of the Year, and her supervised agricultural experience program includes farm work, golf course maintenance, and working at a local feed and hardware store.

State Treasurer - Chris Nnadi, 19, Penns Grove FFA, Carneys Point

  • Chris is a sophomore majoring in plant science at Cook College, Rutgers University. He served as the 2000-01 State FFA Sentinel, and currently has a supervised agricultural experience program in the areas of plant biotechnology and home development.

State Reporter - Elizabeth Cobb, 17, Woodstown FFA, Bridgeton

  • Elizabeth will attend Salem Community College in the fall to major in government/law. She was named New Jersey Treasurer of the Year for two consecutive years while serving as an officer at the chapter level. Working at her family's lumber mill and lawn repair shop and raising 150 white pines are both components of her supervised agricultural experience program.

State Sentinel - Brian Dalbow, Penns Grove FFA, Carneys Point

  • Brian will attend Salem Community College in the fall to study youth ministry. He was recognized as the New Jersey State FFA Member of the Month in April. Lawn care, small animal care, plant care, home improvement, agricultural processing and community development are all aspects of his supervised agricultural experience program.

State Parliamentarian - John Coombs, 18, Woodstown FFA, Elmer

  • John will attend Delaware Valley College this fall. His future plans include returning to the family farm after graduation. This year, he received a State Proficiency award for specialty crops in recognition of his outstanding supervised agricultural experience program, which involved growing and marketing 10 acres of pumpkins.

The New Jersey State FFA Officer team will travel thousands of miles this year as they visit New Jersey's 37 local FFA chapters to promote agricultural education and the FFA. With more than 2,000 FFA members statewide, students are developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
