GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

DESCRIPTION: Under the administrative direction of the Director, Division of Fish and Wildlife, Department of Environmental Protection, manages the Office of Mosquito Control Coordination within the Department of Environmental Protection and serves as the Executive Secretary of the New Jersey State Mosquito Commission; plans, develops, reviews and directs New Jersey's mosquito control programs; does other related work.

SPECIFIC TO THE POSITION: Administration and operational functions associated with the State Mosquito Control Commission including public relations, outreach, training and educational functions. Operations include: State Mosquito Air Spray Program (Aircraft operations); Equipment-Use Program; the Bio-control (mosquito-fish/copepods) Program; Mosquito and Disease Surveillance. Responsibilities will include preparing reports, correspondence, and statistical analysis; troubleshooting problems and providing recommendations and/or solutions for review by the Commission. Skills required: excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organizational and analytical skills. 

RESIDENCY: Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 52:14-7(L. 2011 Chapter 70), also known as the New Jersey First Act which became effective September 1, 2011, all persons newly hired by the NJDEP on or after that date shall have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey.  New Jersey state employees hired prior to September 1, 2011 who transfer from within the NJDEP or from another State of New Jersey appointing authority without a break in service greater than 7 days but who reside outside the State of New Jersey are not required to change their principal residence to New Jersey in order to comply with the act. 

AUTHORIZATION TO WORK: Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States according to the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Regulations.  Note:  The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorships for citizenships to the United States.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in one of the biological sciences or Natural Resource Management including six (6) credits in Entomology. 

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of experience in entomological or bio- chemical research or in the application of entomological principles to field investigations and/or chemical control of insect populations, four (4) years of which shall have been specific to mosquito populations, two (2) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.

NOTE
: A Master's degree in one of the Biological Sciences of Natural Resource Management including or supplemented by six (6) credits in Entomology may be substituted for one (1) year of non-supervisory experience. A Doctorate degree in Entomology or Biology may be substituted for two (2) years of non-supervisory experience.

 
 
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essentials duties of the position.
