Legislation Related to the Delaware and Raritan Canal Commission

SCR-2008 of 1973 -- This concurrent resolution established a special legislative commission to study and develop a plan to protect, preserve and maintain the Delaware and Raritan Canal. 

P.L. 1974. C 118 -- The “Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Law of 1974” designated the lands along the canal owned by the State of New Jersey as the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park.  The legislation also created the Delaware and Raritan Canal Commission, set forth the Commission's powers, functions and duties, established the boundaries of the Commission "Review Zone", and created the present Commission land use regulatory program.

P.L. 1991, c. 344 -- This legislation created the “Delaware and Raritan Canal Safety Study Commission” to examine transportation, recreational and other safety hazards related to the canal.

P.L. 2007, c. 142 -- This legislation amended the 1974 statute to authorize the Commission to collect fees for the review of project applications, and to issue general permits pursuant to regulations adopted by the Commission.
