New Jersey Department of Education

Diversity Initiatives

The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) is dedicated to ensuring the ethno-racial diversity of the state’s educator workforce reflects our student diversity.

The NJDOE’s goal is that by 2025 all students, regardless of race, will have access to an ethno-racially diverse novice (teachers with four years of experience or less) educator workforce that more closely reflects the diversity of the state’s student population and is also culturally responsive.

The NJDOE will achieve this by partnering with educator preparation providers, county colleges, local education agencies, professional associations, policy makers, and community-rooted organizations with intentionality to:

  • Implement promising recruitment, preparation and retention strategies
  • Integrate culturally-responsive practices and pedagogy.

We welcome your participation in our initiative and any feedback that you may have. Please contact us at recruitment@doe.nj.gov.
