5K race and one-mile family fun walk will be held at Cedar Bridge Tavern on March 29, 2026.
TRENTON, NJ - The race is on! RevolutionNJ, the state’s official partnership between the New Jersey Historical Commission and the nonprofit Crossroads of the American Revolution, is hosting its second annual series of six 5K races and one-mile family fun walks at historic sites across New Jersey to commemorate the Semiquincentennial.
The 2026 RevolutionNJ Race Series launches at 9:30 a.m. on March 29 at Cedar Bridge Tavern Historic Site in Ocean County, one of the oldest surviving taverns in New Jersey. Racers and walkers alike will navigate the location of one of the final skirmishes of the American Revolution and learn about the tavern’s deep connection to the Revolutionary War.
The second race and one-mile fun walk in the 2026 RevolutionNJ Race Series will occur on April 19 at Red Bank Battlefield Park in Gloucester County, located along the Delaware River. This site features the James and Ann Whitall house, which sits on a significant battleground and served as a hospital for wounded soldiers.
Four out of six race sites are new, including Cedar Ridge Tavern, Red Bank Battlefield, Fort Lee Historic Park, and Batsto Village, while Monmouth and Princeton Battlefields are recurring locations within the series. “The RevolutionNJ Race Series provides New Jerseyans with a unique way to explore the many historic sites located across the state. Each year, we learn more and more about the depth of New Jersey history and its significance to the American Revolution, all while prioritizing community and wellness for participants of all ages,” said Lieutenant Governor Dale G. Caldwell.
“This year’s RevolutionNJ Race Series will foster an even greater sense of unity across the state as we commemorate the Semiquincentennial through the lens of New Jersey’s many parks, taverns, and battlefields connected to the American Revolution,” said Sara Cureton, Executive Director of the New Jersey Historical Commission. “We invite all New Jerseyans, from running enthusiasts to history buffs and nature lovers and families, to participate in this historic year of races.”
“Inspired by Jonas Cattell’s legendary run to warn American troops of a British attack at Red Bank Battlefield, the RevolutionNJ Race Series connects New Jersey’s revolutionary past to its present,” said Carrie Fellows, Executive Director of Crossroads of the American Revolution. “These races bring new visitors to New Jersey’s historic parks and provide a fresh perspective about the significance of the sites for those who enjoy using them for active recreation. We encourage participation in each race and all they have to bring.”
All participants will receive a t-shirt and a finisher’s medal. Awards will be given to the top three fastest runners in each ten-year age category. Racers and walkers who attend all six races will receive a special prize. Participation in the race is $20 for those registering for the one-mile fun walk and $35 for those registering for the 5K race. For more information, visit: https://runsignup.com/cedarbridgetavern5k.
