Applications open Monday, March 30, 2026, at 9am EST, with 6-week application window and increased project eligibility.

Trenton, NJ — The New Jersey Puerto Rico Commission announces applications for 2026 grant funding are now available via SAGE.NJ.GOV.

Grantees will establish, complete, or expand upon an initiative that improves quality of life conditions on the Island of Puerto Rico. The four funding categories are:

• Energy: For projects focusing on solar panel or generator installation in Puerto Rico.
• Empowerment: For projects focusing on domestic violence and abuse prevention.
• Health: For projects that improve community health outcomes, increase access to healthcare services including prenatal/maternal care, or address a specific public health challenge on the Island.
• Food: For projects focusing on the community’s right to healthy, adequate, and culturally appropriate food produced through ecologically sound and sustainable methods.

Lieutenant Governor Dr. Dale G. Caldwell, who oversees the Commission as Secretary of State, noted, “Puerto Rican families are an important part of New Jersey’s community — their heritage, resilience, and commitment to community strengthen every corner of our state. Our bond with the Island runs deep, and we share a responsibility to support Puerto Rico’s continued recovery and growth. Through these grants, the State of New Jersey is investing in real partnerships and grassroots solutions that improve lives, build sustainability, and honor the enduring connection between our communities.”

Two New Jersey–based organizations and two Puerto Rico–based organizations will each receive $50,000 awards to complete projects, with guidance and support of the Commission throughout the year.

The 2026 grant is open to both Puerto Rico– and New Jersey–based entities. However, the project and services delivered must be located in Puerto Rico. Applications are available via SAGE.NJ.GOV from Monday, March 30, 2026, until Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 12:00pm EST.

The New Jersey Puerto Rico Commission was first established in the wake of Hurricane Maria and codified through statute on January 9, 2020. The Commission’s purpose is to strengthen ties and promote collaboration between New Jersey and Puerto Rico in areas such as culture, economic development, academics, and community support. In 2025, the Commission’s Inaugural Resilient Energy Grant awarded eight organizations $25,000 each to complete generator and solar installations throughout the Island.
