Speed Limits For State Roads

Route NJ 21
(a) The rate of speed designated for the certain parts of State Highway Route NJ 21 described in this section are hereby established and adopted as the maximum legal rate of speed:
1. In Essex County:
i. In the City of Newark:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the intersection of Route US 1&9 and 800 feet south of Poinier Street (approximate mileposts 0.00 to 0.70); thence
(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between 800 feet south of Poinier Street and Clay Street (County Route 506S) (approximate mileposts 0.70 to 3.37); thence
(C) Zone 3: 40 MPH between Clay Street (County Route 506S) and 360 feet north of East 3rd Avenue (approximate mileposts 3.37 to 3.97); thence
(D) Zone 4: 50 MPH between 360 feet north of East 3rd Avenue and 922 feet north of the northernmost intersection with Riverside Avenue (approximate mileposts 3.97 to 5.09); thence
(E) Zone 5: 55 MPH between 922 feet north of the northernmost intersection with Riverside Avenue and the City of Newark-Bellville Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 5.09 to 5.68); thence
ii. In the Township of Bellville:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 55 MPH between the City of Newark-Bellville Township corporate line and the Bellville Township-Nutley Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 5.68 to 7.63); thence
iii. In the Township of Nutley:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 55 MPH between the Bellville Township-Nutley Township corporate line and the Nutley Township-City of Clifton corporate line (approximate mileposts 7.63 to 8.90); thence
2. In Passaic County:
i. In the City of Clifton:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 55 MPH between the Nutley Township-City of Clifton corporate line and the southernmost City of Clifton-City of Passaic corporate line (approximate mileposts 8.90 to 10.10); thence
(B) Zone 2: 55 MPH between the northernmost City of Passaic-City of Clifton corporate line and the northernmost intersection of Route US 46 (end of route) (approximate mileposts 13.22 to 14.35); thence
ii. In the City of Passaic:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 55 MPH between the southernmost City of Clifton – City of Passaic corporate line the southernmost Wallington Borough – City of Passaic corporate line (approximate mileposts 10.10 to 11.71).
(B) Zone 2: 55 MPH between the northernmost City of Passaic – Wallington Borough corporate line and the northernmost City of Passaic – City of Clifton corporate line (approximate mileposts 11.85 to 13.22)
3. In Bergen County:
i. In the Borough of Wallington:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 55 MPH between the southernmost City of Passaic – Wallington Borough corporate line and the northernmost Wallington Borough – City of Passaic corporate line (approximate mileposts 11.71 to 11.85).
