Speed Limits For State Roads

Route NJ 71
(a) The rate of speed designated for the certain parts of State Highway Route NJ 71 described in this subsection are hereby established and adopted as the maximum legal rate of speed:
1. In Monmouth County:
i. In the Borough of Brielle:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between Higgins Avenue and the  Brielle Borough – Manasquan Borough corporate line (Robert Swamp Brook) (approximate mileposts 0.00 to 0.62); thence
ii. In the Borough of Manasquan:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between the Brielle Borough - Manasquan Borough corporate line and Stockton Boulevard, except for 25 MPH when passing through the Saint Dennis School zone (mileposts 0.78 to 0.86) during recess when the presence of children is clearly visible from the roadway or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 0.62 to 1.35); thence
(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between Stockton Boulevard and the Manasquan Borough - Sea Girt Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 1.35 to 1.72); thence
iii. In the Borough of Sea Girt:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Manasquan Borough - Sea Girt Borough corporate line and the Sea Girt Borough – Wall Township southerly corporate line (County Route 20 – Manasquan Turnpike) except for 25 MPH when passing through the Sea Girt School zone while “25 MPH When Flashing” signs are operating during recess, when the presence of children is clearly visible from the roadway or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 1.72 to 2.32); thence
(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between the Sea Girt Borough – Wall Township northerly corporate line (Wreck Pond) and the Sea Girt Borough – Spring Lake Heights Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 2.43 to 2.46); thence
(2) For northbound direction of traffic:
(A) 35 MPH between the Sea Girt Borough – Wall Township southerly corporate line (County Route 20 – Manasquan Turnpike) and the Sea Girt Borough – Wall Township northerly corporate line (Wreck Pond) (approximate mileposts 2.32 to 2.43); thence
iv. In the Borough of Spring Lake Heights:
(1) Along Route NJ 71 for both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Sea Girt Borough-Spring Lake Heights Borough corporate line and Spring Lake Heights Borough – Wall Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 2.43 to 4.12, except for 25 MPH when passing through Spring Lake Heights school zone at approximate mileposts 3.32 to 3.48, while ’25 MPH WHEN FLASHING’ signs are operating during the recess or while children are going to or leaving school during opening or closing hours).
v. In the Township of Wall:
(1) For the southbound direction of traffic:
(A) 35 MPH between the Sea Girt Borough – Wall Township southerly corporate line (County Route 20 – Manasquan Turnpike) and the Sea Girt Borough – Wall Township northerly corporate line (Wreck Pond) (approximate mileposts 2.32 to 2.43); thence
(2) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Spring Lake Heights Borough - Wall Township corporate line (Polly Pond Brook) and Walling Avenue (approximate mileposts 4.13 to 4.65); thence
(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between Walling Avenue and the Wall Township - Belmar Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 4.65 to 4.89); thence
vi. In the Borough of Belmar:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between the Wall Township - Belmar Borough corporate line and Route NJ 35 (12th Avenue) (approximate mileposts 4.89 to 5.10); thence
NOTE: Route NJ 71 is coincident with Route NJ 35 (approximate mileposts 21.05 to 21.37) from 12th Avenue to 8th Avenue (approximate mileposts 5.10 to 5.42).  For speed limit in this section, see Route NJ 35; thence
(B) Zone 2: 25 MPH between Route NJ 35 (8th Avenue) and Fifth Avenue (approximate mileposts 5.42 to 5.79); thence
(C) Zone 3: 30 MPH between Fifth Avenue and the Avon-By-The-Sea Borough - Belmar Borough corporate line (Shark River) (approximate mileposts 5.79 to 5.89); thence
vii. In the Borough of Avon-By-The-Sea:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between the Belmar Borough – Avon-By-The-Sea Borough corporate line and the Bradley Beach Borough – Avon-By-The-Sea Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 5.89 to 6.63); thence
viii. In the Borough of Bradley Beach:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between the Avon-By-The-Sea Borough – Bradley Beach Borough corporate line and the Neptune Township – Bradley Beach Borough corporate line (Fletcher Lake) (approximate mileposts 6.63 to 7.48); thence
ix. In the Township of Neptune:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between the Bradley Beach Borough - Neptune Township corporate line (Fletcher Lake) and the Neptune Township - City of Asbury Park corporate line (Wesley Lake) (approximate mileposts 7.48 to 7.92); thence
x. In the City of Asbury Park:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between the Neptune Township-City of Asbury Park corporate line and the City of Asbury Park-Village of Loch Arbor corporate line (Deal Lake) (approximate mileposts 7.92 to 9.40); thence
xi. In the Village of Loch Arbor:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between the City of Asbury Park-Village of Loch Arbor corporate line (Deal Lake) and Edgemont Avenue (approximate mileposts 9.42 to 9.47); thence
(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between Edgemont Avenue and the Village of Loch Arbor -  Allenhurst Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 9.47 to 9.64); thence
xii. In the Borough of Allenhurst:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Village of Loch Arbor- Allenhurst Borough corporate line and the Allenhurst Borough - Deal Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 9.64 to 9.97); thence
xiii. In the Borough of Deal:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Allenhurst Borough - Deal Borough corporate line and the Deal Borough - Ocean Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 9.97 to 11.18); thence
(2) For the northbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Deal Borough – Ocean Township corporate line and the Deal Borough – City of Long Branch corporate line (approximate mileposts 11.18 to 11.68); thence
xiv. In the Township of Ocean:
(1) For southbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the southernmost Deal Borough – Ocean Township corporate line and the Ocean Township – West Long Branch Borough corporate line (Whale Pond Stream) (approximate mileposts 11.18 to 12.59); thence
xv. In the City of Long Branch:
(1) For the northbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Deal Borough - City of Long Branch corporate line and the northernmost City of Long Branch- West Long Branch Borough corporate line (Cedar Avenue) (approximate mileposts 11.68 to 12.96); thence
xvi. In the Borough of West Long Branch:
(1) For the southbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Ocean Township – West Long Branch Borough corporate line (Whale Pond Stream) and the northernmost West Long Branch Borough-City of Long Branch corporate line (Cedar Avenue) (approximate mileposts 12.59 to 12.96); thence
(2) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the City of Long Branch-West Long Branch Borough corporate line (Cedar Avenue) and Mount Drive (approximate mileposts 12.96 to 13.65); thence
(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between Mount Drive and Wall Street (approximate mileposts 13.65 to 13.93); thence
(C) Zone 3: 40 MPH between Wall Street and Route NJ 36 (approximate mileposts 13.93 to 14.79); thence
(D) Zone 4: 45 MPH between Route NJ 36 and the West Long Branch Borough - Eatontown Borough/Oceanport Borough corporate line (Turtle Mill Creek) (approximate mileposts 14.79 to 15.08); thence
xvii. In the Borough of Oceanport:
(1) For the northbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the West Long Branch Borough – Eatontown Borough/Oceanport Borough corporate line (Turtle Mill Creek) and Reynolds Drive (approximate mileposts 15.08 to 15.45); thence
(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between Reynolds Drive and the northernmost Oceanport Borough  - Eatontown Borough corporate line (Main Street) (approximate mileposts 15.45 to 15.73); thence
xviii. In the Borough of Eatontown:
(1) For the southbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the West Long Branch Borough - Eatontown Borough/Oceanport Borough corporate line (Turtle Mill Creek) and Reynolds Drive (approximate mileposts 15.08 to 15.45); thence
(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between Reynolds Drive and the northernmost Eatontown Borough -  Oceanport Borough corporate line (Main Street) (approximate mileposts 15.45 to 15.73); thence
(2) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the northernmost Oceanport Borough - Eatontown Borough corporate line (Main Street) and Cliffwood Avenue except for 25 MPH when passing through the Meadow Brook School Zone (mileposts 15.87 to 15.95) while "25 MPH WHEN FLASHING" signs are operating during recess or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 15.73 to 16.29); thence
(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between Cliffwood Avenue and Route NJ 35 (Neptune Boulevard) (end of route) (approximate mileposts 16.29 to 16.78).
