Dear Neighbor,

On behalf of <party responsible for remediation>, I am writing to inform you that we will soon begin work to <investigate and/or clean up> environmental contamination at <site name and address, tax block and lot>.  The work will be done under rules established by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), which has assigned it case number <case number>.

The <investigation and/or clean up> is prompted by the presence of <contaminant(s)/description(s) of contaminants>, which has/have been found in the <affected environmental medium/media>. Our work will involve (description of work to be conducted).

During the course of the work, we will provide you with periodic updates about our progress.
