Jersey Grown Firewood

The New Jersey Department of Agriculture (NJDA) encourages people to buy firewood where they burn it, which means the wood was cut within 50 miles of where they will have their fire.

In response to the problem of spreading invasive forest pests through movement of firewood, the NJDa included firewood in the Jersey Grown Program. The NJDA invites tree farms, firewood dealers and others who harvest wood from private forestland managed under an approved forest management plan to take part in this statewide, publicly-recognized marketing program.

Eye-catching reusable plastic Jersey Grown signage is available to participants, which can be attached to firewood to readily identify the product as Jersey Grown.

The Jersey Grown firewood program addresses environmental, economic and energy concerns facing our state and country.  It promotes the availability of locally-produced, high-quality wood products for consumers and supports local economies; reduces the risk of spreading injurious pests and diseases; supports a sustainable, renewable energy resource; and protects the health and safety of our urban, suburban and rural forests.
