56 Bay Avenue Indoor Air

Stafford Township, Ocean County
PI #: 025484

SITE DESCRIPTION/RESOLUTION OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS:
As of 25 August 2004

BAY AVENUE INDOOR AIR

The Bay Avenue Indoor Air site started as a research project that was initiated to in order to study indoor air contamination in relation to ground water contamination. Indoor air sampling involving the use of summa canisters was conducted at 5 residences and/or businesses in 2002 and 2003. Of the 5 locations that were sampled on more than one occasion, only 1 business actually had indoor air contamination. In early 2004, an indoor air treatment system was placed in the basement of the facility to filter the air and remove the contamination.

The Bureau of Southern Case Management (BSCM) believes that the ground water contamination and subsequent identified indoor contamination was the result of a discharge from the UST's located at 56 East Bay Ave (aka Russo). The tank operations have been inactive since 1998 but the tanks remain in the ground waiting to be removed. No investigation or remediation has been conducted to date. The Dept has filed a complaint in Ocean County Court against Russo Fuel Oil for non-compliance for this and other sites that he owns.
