[EXTERNAL]: Contaminated Site Remediation & Redevelopment Program's PFAS Interim Soil and Soil Leachate Remediation Standards Available The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Contaminated Site Remediation & Redevelopment Program (CSRRP) is pleased to announce the posting of interim soil remediation standards for the ingestion-dermal exposure pathway for perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), and hexafluoropropylene oxide dimer acid and its ammonium salt (GenX), and soil and soil leachate remediation standards for the migration to ground water (MGW) exposure pathway for perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS). This posting is in accordance with the Remediation Standards at N.J.A.C. 7:26D-6. Please note that area of concern (AOC)/site-specific SRS-MGW will be developed using the synthetic precipitation leaching procedure (SPLP) and the Department's PFAS SPLP Calculator. See the Alternative Remediation Standards Technical Guidance for Soil and Soil Leachate for the Migration to Ground Water (ARS-MGW) Exposure Pathway for details on using SPLP results to determine an AOC/site-specific SRS-MGW (https://www.state.nj.us/dep/srp/guidance/srra/ars_migration_to_gw_guidance.pdf). The interim remediation standards for soil and soil leachate have been published in the October 17, 2022 New Jersey Register and are posted on CSRRP's Interim Remediation Standards Webpage (https://nj.gov/dep/srp/guidance/rs/interim_soil_ia_rl_rs.html). The effective date of the interim soil and soil leachate remediation standards for PFNA, PFOA, PFOS and GenX is October 17, 2022. All supporting information can be accessed through the Interim Remediation Standards website at the link above. The interim remediation standards are as follows: NJDEP Interim Soil and Soil Leachate Remediation Standards
1mg/kg is equivalent to parts per million (ppm). 2µg/L is equivalent to parts per billion (ppb). 3To be calculated using SPLP and the Department's PFAS SPLP Calculator. 4Not available because there currently is no established Ground Water Remediation Standard (GWRS) to calculate soil and soil leachate remediation standards for the migration to ground water exposure pathway. The NJDEP recommends delineating to the Laboratory Reporting Limit when investigating GenX in soil for the migration to ground water exposure pathway until a GWRS is established for GenX. A training session regarding the interim remediation standard development, process, and applicability will be offered on November 10, 2022 at 9 am. Registration information will be provided in a forthcoming listserv. Contact Allan Motter, Rule Manager, at allan.motter@dep.nj.gov or 609-984-4532 with any questions or concerns. |
