LNAPL Guidance

The presentation will cover the Department’s final technical
guidance entitled “Light Non-Aqueous Phase Liquid (LNAPL)
Initial Recovery and Interim Remedial Measures Guidance.”
The presentation will cover:
- The underlying regulations and timeline for compliance including
the identification of LNAPL through the initiation of an Interim
Remedial Measure (IRM).
- A technical overview that links LNAPL behavior in the subsurface
to the key objectives of stopping LNAPL migration and the recovery
of mass.
- Helpful technical insights on the selection of initial recovery
methods and on matching IRMs to site conditions through the
development of a conceptual site model.
- Case examples will be presented to demonstrate how the guidance
can be successfully applied.

This presentation will address the regulatory requirements and
guidance documents that an investigator should utilize to conduct
a Receptor Evaluation pursuant to N.J.A.C. 7:26E-1.15 through
1.19. Using case examples representatives from the Department
and the Stakeholder committee members will discuss:
- The trigger for the receptor evaluation
- Regulatory and mandatory timeframes
- Well search and completing the well search spreadsheet
- Vapor intrusion triggers and sampling
- Completing a receptor evaluation form
