Steve Tambini is the fourth Executive Director of the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC), a federal-interstate agency created in 1961 by compact legislation signed into law by President Kennedy and the governors of the four basin states with land draining to the Delaware River. As the Executive Director, Tambini develops and implements plans, policies and projects adopted by the five-member Commission relating to the water resources of the Delaware River Basin. This includes formulating, reviewing, analyzing and evaluating program objectives, policies and operations based on the Delaware River Basin Compact and the DRBC Comprehensive Plan.

Tambini has over 40 years of experience in water supply engineering and water resource planning, management and operations. Prior to assuming the Executive Director duties on August 1, 2014, Steve served as Vice President of Operations at Pennsylvania American Water. In addition, Tambini previously held important management leadership posts at New Jersey American Water, including the Vice President of Operations and the Vice President of Engineering. Tambini also provided engineering leadership to American Water subsidiaries serving 12 other states that encompassed a wide range of water resource and water supply challenges and projects.

Over his career, Tambini has held various leadership posts and contributed to several water-related organizations, including the American Water Works Association, the National Association of Water Companies and the Water Resources Association of the Delaware River Basin. He is currently a member of the American Water Resources Association and the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary, and serves on the board of directors for the Rancocas Conservancy. Mr. Tambini is a member of LeadNJ’s Class of 2010 and the Pennsylvania Business Council Executive Leadership Program’s Class of 2012.

Steve holds a B.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering and a M.S. degree in Environmental Engineering, both from Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. He is a registered professional engineer in New Jersey and New York.
