Indoor Environmental Consultant License

The standards for licensing consultants who conduct Indoor Environmental Health Assessments (IEHAs) in child care centers and educational facilities are set forth in N.J.A.C. 8:50.

All Indoor Environmental Consultant applications must be submitted through the NJ Department of Health online portal.  Once there, new applicants must click "Sign Up" to acquire an account and submit the application. The manual on how to submit the application will be available under the "How to" section at the bottom of the page. Application Fee

Applications must be accompanied by a non-refundable application fee of $2,000, via the NJ DOH e-payment system (e-checks and credit cards). No cash, personal checks or company checks will be accepted. An application that is not accompanied by the fee will not be reviewed.

Employee qualifications
  • Consultants must employ at least one individual with, at minimum, one year of experience conducting environmental assessments. Applicants should have experience in any of the following areas: Preliminary Assessments, Phase 1/Phase 2 Assessments, Site Remediation Work, Remedial Action Reports, Groundwater Investigations, or other Industrial Hygiene work. Consultants may not sub-contract this work.
  • If a consultant does not have employees who are qualified to conduct lead, asbestos or radon work, those activities may be sub-contracted.
Renewing an IEC license
  • All Indoor Environmental Consultant renewal applications must be submitted through the NJ Department of Health online portal.
  • The renewal application must be submitted to the NJDOH at least 30 days prior to the expiration of the license.
  • Applications must be accompanied by a non-refundable application fee of $2,000. Payment must be in the form of an e-payment (e-checks and credit cards). No cash, personal checks or company checks will be accepted.
  • The renewal of the license is contingent upon the satisfaction of outstanding fines, penalties or other obligations imposed on the applicant.
