Ancora Visitation Protocol

Indoor patient visitation will be on the following days:

  • Cedar Hall and Birch Hall on Mondays and Thursdays 6:00pm – 8:00pm
  • Main Building on Wednesdays 6:00pm – 8:00pm
  • Holly Hall and Larch Hall on Tuesdays and Fridays 6:00pm – 8:00pm 
  • Potential visitors will preschedule their visits with the secretary of the building in which their loved one is being treated. All visits must be pre-scheduled. The building secretaries may be reached at 609.561.1700:
  • Main Building – extensions 7717, 7697
  • Birch Hall – extensions 8952, 7928
  • Cedar Hall – extensions 7839, 7819,
  • Holly Hall – extensions 7709, 7749
  • Larch Hall – extensions 7580, 7885

Ancora Psychiatric Hospital is a 600-bed adult inpatient facility that offers a multidisciplinary team approach to development and implementation of care. Ancora meets the needs of its mentally ill clients in the areas of admissions, acute and chronic psychiatric units, gero-psychiatric units, a sub-acute medical unit, a secure care unit (forensic), and a dual diagnostic unit for the mentally ill and developmentally disabled.

Board of Trustees

The Board is responsible for advancing long range planning for medical care, correctional and training programs at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital and for maintaining general oversight of the facility. In addition, the Board has the authority to review institutional needs, exercise visitation privileges and develop a comprehensive master plan, including priorities for construction and development of new programs with the Commissioner of Health and his/her staff. The Board may also recommend and advise the Commissioner on building programs, control and determine the use of patient welfare funds, and review and comment on budget requests. Furthermore, the Board is empowered to review periodically existing programs of care, training, rehabilitation and other such matters. Finally, the Board shall authorize studies and require reports from the chief executive officer, and present to the Commissioner recommendations as it deems necessary.

Special Requirements:  Members shall be appointed by the State Board of Human Services subject to the Governor's approval. The members shall be residents of the State of New Jersey and shall be considered for appointment without respect to political affiliations or beliefs. The statute requires that there shall be at least 2 women on the Board.

Meeting Schedule

The APH Board of Trustees schedules ten regular meetings per calendar year.  Meetings are scheduled on the fourth Tuesday of each month beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Executive Meeting Room, Fourth Floor, Main Building (time and location of Annual Meeting to be announced).
