Deadline Extended (4/4) for Emerging Filmmaker Lab @ Newark

The application deadline for the Emerging Filmmaker Lab @ Newark has been extended to Friday, April 4th.

This free, two-week summer filmmaking intensive is open to Newark public high school students in grades 10–12. The program runs Monday through Friday, July 14–25, 2025, at Donald M. Payne Sr. School of Technology.

Students will:

• Gain hands-on experience in filmmaking
• Build a portfolio for college or career opportunities
• Collaborate with peers
• Develop technical and creative skills for the future

Roy W. Dean Grant now accepting Spring 2025 submissions

From the Heart Productions is excited to announce that the Roy W. Dean Grant for Spring 2025 is now open for submissions! Now in its fourth decade, this prestigious grant has provided funding and production services to independent filmmakers creating unique films that make a positive contribution to society.

Who Should Apply?

The grant is open to filmmakers working on documentaries, narrative features, short films, and web series. Projects should be budgeted at $500,000 or less. Grant is open to filmmakers at any level of experienc including students.

What the Grant Offers:

Winner of the Roy W. Dean Grant for Spring will receive $3,500 in cash and thousands more in donated film products and services including 40% deduction on color, editing, and sound & all production services from ProMedia NYC, $500 in grip, lighting or expendables from Filmtools, 30% discount in equipment rental from AbelCine Tech, Inc. NYC, $1,600 value / sound mix session from Silver Sound, and more from many heartfelt donors.
