New Jersey small businesses create jobs, provide important services and products, and make a big impact on the state's economy. But whether your enterprise is home-based or a high-tech start-up, you still face not-so-small challenges in launching and running your small business.
Here in the Garden State, small business owners don't need to go it alone. The State of New Jersey delivers specialized and professional support to small businesses through the New Jersey Business Action Center (NJBAC). Count on the NJBAC as your business-first resource for updates on the state's licensing and permitting laws. We also provide mentoring, technical training, regulatory assistance, site selection, emergency preparedness guidance and access to business recovery programs and services. The NJBAC’s Small Business Advocacy unit offers resources that are especially useful to small business owners—and they are all offered at no cost to you:
NJBAC Business Helpline: 1-800-JERSEY-7
With the New Jersey Business Helpline on speed dial, help is always just a call away. Business advocates are ready to respond to your call personally and promptly, answering your questions in real time and directing you to the resources you need. The Business Helpline is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1-800-JERSEY-7. Spanish-speaking advocates are available. For 24/7 information and an overview of the NJBAC's services, visit the State of New Jersey Business Portal.
Financing and State Contracting
Small Business Advocates can link you with a variety of financing options through the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) and community-based micro lenders. What’s more, they can provide procurement assistance to help you take advantage of opportunities to bid on government contracts.
Export Assistance
Ready to expand your business internationally? NJBAC Business Advocates can help you sell your goods or services globally with valuable export assistance. Not only will you learn the basics about exporting, you'll be connected with a team of international advocates who will help you develop a plan for global success. By the way, New Jersey has received the prestigious President's "E Star" Award for excellence in Export Services.
Events To Keep You "In the Know"
The NJBAC team hosts “Resources for Growth” events throughout the year. Topics of interest to small business owners include entrepreneurship, intellectual property and marketing basics. Check out the State of New Jersey's Business Portal for information on upcoming events.
Under the leadership of Executive Director Melanie Willoughby and housed within the New Jersey Department of State, the New Jersey Business Action Center is dedicated to revitalizing and expanding business in the Garden State with the mission of nurturing economic vitality and growing jobs.
