Department of Transportation

Drivers

Drivers wear a New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Safety Service Patrol (SSP), sponsored by GEICO, uniform. The uniform consists of an NJDOT SSP safety vest, with SSP and GEICO logo patches, uniform shirt which is a short or long sleeve gray polo shirt, blue pants, standard SSP hat and an identification badge on his/her shirt or jacket. When appropriate, the uniform shirts are covered by the standard blue jacket and/or sweatshirt, and rain gear.

SSP personnel must wear a safety vest when outside their vehicle. By wearing a safety vest, motorists are aware of the presence of SSP and it also helps alert motorists to activity on or near the roadway.

All SSP personnel possess a valid New Jersey Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A license. It is the policy of NJDOT (1.309-A) that all operators of vehicles and equipment must be licensed in the State of New Jersey and it is against the law to operate a motor vehicle without a license.

NJDOT takes great pride in the quality service that SSP employees provide to our customers. SSP personnel strive to provide the highest level of customer service and provide each motorist they assist.

Call 911 to report an incident on a New Jersey State and/or Interstate highway.
