The covers of the Official New Jersey map have reflected the times: the official parchment look of the 1925 map, the "multimodal" graphics of the mid-1960s when the New Jersey Department of Transportation evolved from the Highway Department and scenic vistas to attract visitors. The Statue of Liberty emphatically proclaims that she stands in New Jersey on the 1986-87 cover that announced that year's tourism slogan. The State Capitol dome and lighthouses were repeated subjects. And, historic milestones such as the nation's Bicentennial (1976-77), the millennium (2000) and the patriotic aftermath of 9/11/01 were also captured in cover art.
