The department released the Phase I update of the 1992 Uniform Minimum Chart of Accounts for New Jersey Public Schools in December 2003.

The Phase I update incorporates revisions (highlighted in yellow) made from 1992 to present for account codes (previously implemented in DOE Budget Guidelines, accounting software vendor letters and various memos). Also included are new codes or changes to existing codes and the descriptions (shaded in gray) effective for 2004-05. These changes were made primarily to conform to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) reporting requirements presented in the NCES document Financial Accounting for Local and State School Systems issued in November, 2003. The revisions were made in cooperation with NJ Association of Business Officials (ASBO) Accounting and Auditing Committee which provided valuable input and comment.
