Work crews smooth the ground where the foundation of a new pedestrian bridge will soon be established. The bridge will cross Route 18 near Carpender Road and Phelps Avenue. This will provide residents on the southbound side of the highway easy access to the Paulus Boulevard bus stop and a multi-use path which will run through Boyd Park on the Raritan River.
With the foundation completed, work crews begin erecting forms for the upright portions of the noise wall between Newell and Phelps Avenues. Once completed, the wall will have architectural treatments applied and landscaping will add finishing touches.
Crews grind up trees, stumps and branches to make removal easier as workers clear the area near Paulus Boulevard in preparation for pedestrian paths and roadway upgrades.
Once the clearing is completed, Raritan Gardens Apartments will receive new landscaping, pedestrian pathways, a noise wall along Route 18, and roadway upgrades on Paulus Boulevard which will make the area safer for residents and pedestrians.
Work is being done on erecting and bracing the molds that are used to form the actual sound walls which will provide a sound and visual barrier for neighborhoods adjacent to the highway. When completed, the wall will have an architectural treatment applied to its surface and the area will be extensively landscaped.
Tree clearing near the Raritan Garden apartments will provide for the creation of pedestrian paths and a U-turn for vehicles wishing to cross Route 18 or to go from the northbound to the southbound lanes.
