Closure and Reduced Clearance
Revised
Notice September 29, 2011
Please be advised that Ship Channel
(Great Egg Harbor) will
be closed on Monday,
October 3, 2011 at 7 am. The channel
is scheduled to reopen with
a reduced vertical
clearance of 40 feet on Friday,
October 7, 2011 at 5 pm. The reduced
clearance is scheduled to
be in effect until February
3, 2012.
The temporary Ship Channel closure
is required to accommodate
the placement of construction barges
carrying concrete beams,
construction cranes, and the equipment
required to set the beams over
the Ship Channel bridge span. The
temporary reduction in vertical
clearance is a result of placing
concrete beams over the existing
Ship Channel for the construction
of the new bridge. The final vertical
clearance will be 55 feet in the
relocated channel. Mariners are
urged to use caution when navigating
the area during this period.
