Traffic Regulations

(a)

The rate of speed designated for the certain parts of State Highway Route US 1 described in this subsection are hereby designated and adopted as the maximum legal rate of speed:

1.

In Mercer County:

NOTE: State Highway Route US 1 is under Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission jurisdiction from approximate mileposts 0.00 to 0.60.

i.  In the City of Trenton:

(1)

For both directions of traffic

(A) Zone 1: 50 MPH between the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission-New Jersey Department of Transportation jurisdictional line (Conover Alley) and Strawberry Street (approximate mileposts 0.60 to 3.0); thence

(B) Zone 2: 55 MPH between Strawberry Street and the City of Trenton-Lawrence Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 3.0 to 3.20); thence

ii. In the Township of Lawrence:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 55 MPH between the City of Trenton-Lawrence Township corporate line and the Lawrence Township-West Windsor Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 3.20 to 8.01); thence

iii. In the Township of West Windsor:

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 55 MPH between the Lawrence Township-West Windsor Township corporate line and the West Windsor Township-Plainsboro Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 8.01 to 11.97); thence

(A) Zone 1:55 MPH between the West Windsor Township-Plainsboro Township corporate line and the Plainsboro Township-South Brunswick Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 11.97 to 14.04); thence

ii. In the Township of South Brunswick:

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 55 MPH between the Plainsboro Township-South Brunswick Township corporate line and the South Brunswick Township-North Brunswick Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 14.04 to 20.52); thence

iii. In the Township of North Brunswick:

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 55 MPH between the South Brunswick Township-North Brunswick Township corporate line and 700 feet north of Rittenhouse Court (approximate mileposts 20.52 to 24.03); thence

(B) Zone 2: 50 MPH between 700 feet north of Rittenhouse Court and the North Brunswick Township-City of New Brunswick corporate line (approximate mileposts 24.03 to 26.70); thence

iv. In the City of New Brunswick:

(A) Zone 1: 50 MPH between the North Brunswick Township-City of New Brunswick corporate line and the City of

(A) Zone 1: 50 MPH between the Edison Township-Woodbridge Township corporate line and the intersection of Route US 1 and Route US 9 (approximate mileposts 33.81 to 35.97); thence

NOTE: State Highway Route US 1 is coincident with State Highway Route US 9 from its junction with US 9 to the intersection of West Harriet Avenue (approximate mileposts 35.97 to 62.73). See Route US 1&9 for speed limits in this section.

Truck speed limit differential, Route US 1 in accordance with the provision of c. 100, Laws 1960, 45 MPH is hereby established and adopted as the maximum legal rate of speed for trucks of a registered weight of 10,000 pounds and over for those parts of State highway route number US 1 described herein below where the maximum legal rate of speed, by regulation or statute, is 50 MPH.

i. In the Township of North Brunswick:

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the Route US 1-Route US 130 traffic circle and the North Brunswick Township-New Brunswick City corporate line (approximate mileposts 24.64 to 26.62); thence

ii. In the City of New Brunswick:

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the North Brunswick Township-New Brunswick City corporate line and the New Brunswick City-Edison Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 26.62 to 27.90); thence

iii. In the Township of Edison:

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the New Brunswick City-Edison Township corporate line and the northerly end of the Raritan River Bridge (approximate mileposts 27.90 to 28.05); thence

(B) Zone 2: 45 MPH between a point 290 feet north of the centerline of Plainfield Avenue and the Edison Township-Woodbridge Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 29.11 to 33.81); thence

iv. In the Township of Woodbridge:

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the Edison Township-Woodbridge Township corporate line and the intersection of Route US 9 (approximate mileposts 33.81 to 35.89).
