In New Jersey, a person may file for a Restraining Order where the domestic violence occurred, where the defendant resides, where the plaintiff resides, or where the plaintiff is sheltered or temporarily staying. Complaints can be filed at the Domestic Violence Unit of the Superior Court/Family Division Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
A Restraining Order can be modified when one party seeks to add or change provisions of an order. Any request to dismiss or make changes to an existing Restraining Order must be done in person and heard before a judge. Restraining orders cannot be dropped or modified by telephone.

En Nueva Jersey, una persona puede solicitar una orden de restricción donde ocurrió la violencia doméstica, donde reside el demandado, donde reside el demandante, o donde el demandante está protegido o se queda temporalmente. Las quejas se pueden presentar en la Unidad de Violencia Doméstica del Tribunal Superior / División de Familia de lunes a viernes, de 8:30 a.m. a 3:30 p.m.
Una orden de restricción se puede modificar cuando una de las partes busca agregar o cambiar disposiciones de una orden. Cualquier solicitud para desestimar o hacer cambios a una Orden de restricción existente debe hacerse en persona y ser escuchada ante un juez. Las órdenes de restricción no se pueden retirar ni modificar por teléfono.
