What to know before you apply:
- Applications currently take about 30 to 45 days to process. If you create a NJ FamilyCare account, you can check the status of your application after you submit it.
- You will get a letter in the mail whether or not you qualify for coverage.
- Receiving NJ FamilyCare does not make you a public charge.
- You can pick a Health Plan during the application. It is a good idea to check with your healthcare providers ahead of time to see which Health Plan(s) they accept. Visit https://www.state.nj.us/humanservices/dmahs/clients/medicaid/hmo/ to learn more about each plan.
- You do not need a social security number for the application. However, if you have one, enter it on the application.
- If you move, you must call 1-800-701-0710 (TTY: 711) to update your address. This is to make sure you receive any important mailings or updates.
