GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

This Librarian 4 position coordinates Ocean County Library Senior Services system-wide. This position will supervise Volunteer and Homeborrowers.

Schedule: 9-5pm Mon-Fri. Evening and weekend hours as needed for programs and outreach.

The Librarian 4 Senior Services Coordinator provides system-wide leadership in, and advocacy for, Senior services for people ages 55+. This position plans, organizes, and coordinates a comprehensive program of library services for Seniors and participates in partnerships with other Senior serving organizations.

Within the context of the Library's Vision, Mission and Values the Senior Services Coordinator is responsible for recommending, implementing and evaluating the Senior services program to meet the needs of customers and the community.

This position will build partnerships that support the library's commitment to diversity, inclusion and cultural awareness.

All activities of the position are performed under the broad supervision of the Chief Librarian and in concert with appropriate Ocean County Library departments and work units.

Examples of Duties:

Responsibilities and activities will include but are not limited to the following:

Senior Services Coordinator:

Coordinates system-wide Senior services programming in support of strategic plan objectives and develops system-wide evaluation of Senior services programs and services.

Ensures communication among librarians system-wide for consistent innovative and exemplary service to Seniors and the Senior serving organizations in the community.

Provides orientation and coaching support for librarians system-wide.

Provides leadership, training and advocacy for Senior services for the Ocean County Community.

Delivers and coordinates readers' advisory for Senior customers (in person and virtually) using appropriate sources of information including knowledge of the collection, the publishing industry and electronic resources.

Constructs and applies a detailed approach to training for Senior customers on the use of all Library resources.

Represents the OCL with various community groups as an advocate for Seniors and seeks opportunities for collaboration with the library.

Applies for, administers and monitors grants for Senior services.

Performs additional duties as assigned including being a project lead and/or serving on project teams, committees and task forces/work groups.

Performs a full range of supervisory duties for employees including setting individual performance measurements for staff and holding them accountable as assigned. Responsibilities may include coaching, managing, hiring, orienting and evaluating assigned staff.

Develops and monitors annual budget request for system-wide Senior and Homebound and Volunteer services.

Participates and presents at local, state and national conferences.

Utilizes computer applications and Library equipment, maintains current knowledge of system wide and location specific procedures, processes, policies and operations. Utilizes email, voicemail and other Library technology to maintain open channels of communication.

Assists with community analysis and develops plans to effectively meet community needs and promotes the Library through community outreach.

Provides information to the OCL Management Team about new and emerging programs and technologies, services, and resource collections for consideration and Implementation throughout the OCL.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of theories, objectives, principles, and techniques of librarianship.

Knowledge of current library technology, trends and innovations.

Ability to determine work to be accomplished, issue assignments, and instruct, train, and evaluate subordinate personnel.

Ability to plan and implement library programs and services such as story hours, book talks, film programs, senior citizen programs, etc.

Ability to remain knowledgeable about library services, activities and facilities and to coordinate services and activities between departments or with other agencies.

Ability to keep informed of current theories, objectives, principles, and techniques of librarianship and adapt to modern technology and library trends and innovations.

Ability to keep informed of current events, and popular and local culture.

Ability to work harmoniously, creatively and respectfully with patrons and coworkers.

Ability to work with professional associations toward the improvement of methods and techniques of library services.

Ability to give clear, concise, and informative talks before professional and nonprofessional groups.

Ability to think critically and creatively to solve problems and implement ideas.

Ability to communicate effectively and share knowledge with others, using oral, written and electronic communication skills.

Ability to, analyze, interpret and implement the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of a library.

Ability to practice effective customer service skills to best determine patrons' needs.

Ability to train and assist public with communications, technology literacy and all information resources.

Ability to identify, customize, create and present innovative programs and services and integrate new technologies into library service.

Ability to analyze, comprehend and use current approved public library standards, methods and techniques in the selection of appropriate library resources.

Ability to comprehend the specific functions and problems of a library and work toward the improvement of methods and techniques of library services.

Ability to promote and foster public access to information, and assist patrons in developing technology literacy.

Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative narrative and statistical and other reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Ability to supervise the establishment and maintenance of essential records and files.

Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

Education and Experience Requirements:

A Master's degree in Library or Information Science in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey College Master's Program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College.

Three (3) years of librarian experience.

A New Jersey Professional Librarian certificate or ability to obtain one within one year of appointment.

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in the state of New Jersey as the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
