Site Remediation Obligations for Government Entities

Annual Mayors Roundtable Session

Every year, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the New Jersey State League of Municipalities host a Brownfields to Ballfields event, for mayors and local officials to learn about the Site Remediation Program and to ask questions about cleanups of contaminated sites.

NJDEP hosts Municipal Workshops

Mayors and local government officials interested in learning more about site remediation issues and brownfield redevelopment can arrange for a meeting with staff from the NJDEP Office of Community Relations (OCR) and Office of Brownfield Reuse (OBR). In an effort to improve communication with local government officials and help communities revitalize blighted properties, OCR staff will provide technical assistance and updates on projects undergoing remediation.  Information posted on NJDEP’s Data Miner and KCSNJ Web sites will assist local government officials in tracking site conditions and remedial activities.  OCR and OBR staff will also provide information on financial assistance for homeowners who need to remove their home heating oil tank, as well as information on other state funded programs to evaluate and clean up properties in need of redevelopment. Many municipalities have benefited from the information exchange and have found OCR to be a resource on environmental issues affecting their community.
