Munchkin Village Child Care Facility

In 2007, indoor air sampling was conducted at the Munchkin Village Child Care Facility as part of newly enacted health requirements for child care facilities that co-locate with a dry cleaner facility. Results of the sampling identified tetrachlorethene (PCE) in the building. Neighboring buildings, including the dry cleaner, were subsequently sampled by NJDEP and two additional properties were determined to have levels in the indoor air that exceed the NJ Indoor Air Screening levels (113 & 115 Ocean Avenue). A sub-slab vapor recovery system was constructed in the basements of the three impacted properties to reduce the levels of PCE in the indoor air. NJDEP continues to maintain and monitor the three properties and make changes to the system as needed.
