Commissioner’s Message:
One of my first priorities is to visit classrooms across the state to listen, learn, and lift up the excellent work already underway. During my first week, I visited early childhood centers in Newark and spoke with students and educators about the importance of high-quality early learning. I was inspired by the joyful, engaging instruction I observed, including strong language and vocabulary routines and rich interactions that help children build the foundational skills they will use throughout their education. This work reflects the strength of early learning in New Jersey and the deep commitment of our educators.
My focus is on providing districts with clear and reliable supports. As an educator, I know firsthand how a state agency can either help or hinder local efforts. As we work to strengthen the support you receive, I am also proud to work alongside Governor Sherrill to prioritize literacy, high-impact tutoring, student well-being, educator workforce support, and fiscal stability. These priorities reflect our shared commitment to improving outcomes for every child.
I look forward to working collaboratively with you to continue strengthening New Jersey’s schools and delivering on the promise of an outstanding education for all students.
Lily Laux, Ph.D.
Acting Commissioner of Education
