Section 1 - Program Information

District Information

The program information section provides an overview of the school district and the proposed Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. This section presents essential background information, including the district’s contact information and the format of the CTE program. Information submitted in this section will be used for CTE data reporting.

The District Information section should be completed fully and accurately. If the contact information does not have a phone extension, enter a “zero” for the phone extension field.

CIP Information

In the Classification of Instructional Program (CIP) Information segment districts will identify the Career Cluster, CIP code, program format information and status of the program.

Current CIP code (Renewal applications only)

For this area of the Information tab, the user will enter the career cluster, CIP code, and program format information. This is the CIP code the program is currently operating under. These fields should only be changed after a discussion with the Career Cluster Lead or, if directed by the NJDOE.

Proposed CIP code

The proposed CIP code options are generated based on the Career Cluster selected. The CIP code should align with anticipated career paths and be supported by all areas of the program application.

At the time of reapproval, a district can opt to change their CIP code if their program has changed and will align better with a different CIP code within that existing Career Cluster. If there is no change to the CIP code, select No Change from the Proposed CIP drop down menu. If changing CIP codes, select one from the Proposed CIP code drop down menu.

During the reapproval process, the district’s desired CIP code may be aligned to a different Career Cluster. If the CIP code aligns with a different Career Cluster, the district is required to submit a New Program application. The CIP code may also be a code that is not approved by the NJDOE for the selected Career Cluster.

Academy Format

Career academies are designed to prepare students for both college and careers. They are schools within schools that link students with peers, teachers, and community partners in a structured environment that fosters academic success. Often, the strongest career academies have a career and technical (CTE) programs of study at their core.

The career academy concept has four key elements central to the development and implementation:

  1. A small learning community (SLC)
  2. A college-prep sequential curriculum with a career theme
  3. An advisory board that forges partnerships with employers, higher education institutions, and the broader community
  4. A sequenced, comprehensive work-based learning component.

In the application, if the program is delivered as an academy format, select Yes. If not, select No.

More information can be found at the National Career Academy Coalition.

Status

Select the status of the program by choosing one of the following:

  1. Shared-Time (For County Vocational School Districts only) — Students attend a CTE program at a county vocational school part-time and a sending school part-time.
  2. Full-Time — Students attend one district location only.
  3. Both (For County Vocational School Districts only — This program operates both as a shared-time and full-time program.

Click Save while editing and Finish when the section is complete.

Teacher Certification Info

Career and Technical Education programs can only be taught by teachers who hold the appropriate CTE endorsement. Once a CIP code is selected, the Certificate options for teaching the CIP code will populate in the list. It is the responsibility of the district to ensure staff are appropriately certified.
