NJ School Improvement Renewal Grant for SIG/Cohort 1 Continuation Year 3/3

Purpose: School Improvement Grants (SIG), are issued through State educational agencies (SEAs), to local educational agencies (LEAs) for use in Title I schools identified for improvement that demonstrate the greatest need for the funds and the strongest commitment to use the funds to provide adequate resources to raise substantially the achievement of their students so as to enable the schools to make adequate yearly progress and exit improvement status Tier I schools are a State's persistently lowest-achieving Title I schools in improvement. Tier II schools are a State's persistently-lowest achieving secondary schools (grades 9-12) that are Title I served and Title I eligible for, but do not receive, Title I, Part A funds. In each of the Tier I and Tier II schools an LEA chooses to serve, the LEA must implement one of four federal school intervention models: turnaround model, restart model, school closure, or transformation model. Eligibility for this SIG / Cohort 1 continuation grant is limited to the currently-funded agencies who were awarded in the 2011 competitive grant. Continuation funding will be contingent upon application review and successful completion of the prior year project. The continuation project year for SIG / Cohort 1 is September 1, 2012 - August 31, 2013.
