Purpose: The Using Formative Assessments to Improve Teaching and Learning Grant Program is a two year grant program to support teachers and school leaders in creating and using formative assessments to guide instructional interventions to improve student learning. Partnerships between high-need LEAs (a school district or charter school) and institutions of higher education, with their units that train teachers and principals and their school of arts and sciences are at the core of these improvement efforts. Additional partners may include public charter schools, businesses, and nonprofit or for-profit organizations. Private schools are encouraged to participate in the program. Private schools within the boundaries of any high need Local Education Agency (LEA) may participate directly in the program through the local public school district. This program is open to the grantees selected through a competitive process in Year 1. The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) has established a two year grant program to support this work. Funding through Title II-A � Higher Education funds support the development and maintenance of partnerships between IHEs and LEAs. Based on the availability of federal resources, the second year of this two year grant program will begin September 1, 2014 and end on August 31, 2015.
