Purpose: It is the intent of the McKinney-Vento Education of Homeless Children and Youth program to ensure that homeless children and youth have equal access to a free, appropriate public education, and to be able to enroll in and attend school. The Stewart B. McKinney-Vento grant program funds are to provide supplemental support services for homeless children and youth designed to assure their school success. The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) has established a two-year grant program which is focused on the four counties that remained unserved as a result of the FY16 McKinney grant competition. The McKinney grant program focuses on the provision of instructional services that are supplemental to the regular school program and on referral services to appropriate community-based organizations with the goal of enabling all homeless children and youth to meet challenging state content and student performance standards. This grant program is open to LEAs who apply in partnership with an organization with a record of providing services to homeless populations. Projects will serve coordinate and provide educational programs and services for homeless children and youth residing in the partnership's project area. Based on the availability of federal resources, this two-year grant program began July 1, 2016 and will end on June 30, 2018. The first grant period will be July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017
