Purpose: The FIRST Tech Challenge Mentoring program is a pilot program in Bergen County which is intended to increase the number of high schools that field and support FIRST Robotics Competition teams. The FIRST h Challenge Mentoring program is a limited competitive grant open to Bergen County LEAs with experienced FIRST Robotics teams. Experienced teams were established prior to 2010. Eligible LEAs must apply in partnership with three additional LEAs to mentor and establish new FIRST Tech Challenge teams that will compete in the 2017-2018 competition season. The outcome of the CTE-CEEP program will be to increase the exposure of students in grades 7-12 to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) fields and careers through teambuilding, engineering, organizational and leadership activities found within the FIRST program. This NGO covers a thirteen month initial project period and is funded from state utility settlement funds. Based on the availability of funds, this first year of the grant program will begin April 1, 2017 and end April 30, 2018. Year two will run May 1, 2018 to April 30 2019.
