Purpose: School Improvement Grants (SIGs), authorized under section 1003(g) of Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), are five-year, discretionary grants to support implementation of federally-approved interventions selected by local education agencies (LEAs). These interventions, when implemented with fidelity, are expected to result in dramatic, sustainable improvement in student outcomes in their lowest-performing schools. Eligibility for this continuation grant is limited to LEAs (and their schools) selected during the initial competitive application process. As directed by the New Jersey Department of Education program office, current grantees shall use their allocation in a manner consistent with the SIG final requirements or in a manner consistent with section 1003 of the ESEA, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act. The Year 4 project period for SIG Cohorts 4 and 4R is September 1, 2019-August 31, 2020.
