Purpose:

The purpose of the Teacher Quality and Retention grant program is to establish a sustainable program of instructional coaching for teachers in high poverty school districts as defined in section 3 of P.L. 2007, c.260 (C 18A: 7F-45). Recipients will develop and implement a sustainable, scalable and comprehensive program of instructional coaching and professional development in eligible high poverty school districts with an emphasis on serving the needs of newly hired teachers, with special emphasis on minority teachers. The intent is to provide the state with a successful model that can be implemented to retain high quality teachers in the workforce.

The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) has established a twelve (12) month grant program. This limited-competitive grant program is open to institutions of higher education (IHE), with an approved educator preparation program (EPP) located in the state of New Jersey. The IHE must apply on behalf of a partnership that includes at least one high poverty school district.

Based on the availability of FY25 state appropriations, this grant program will begin June 1, 2025, and will end on May 31, 2026. Applicants may apply for up to $375,000.
