The New Jersey Commission on Cancer Research (NJCCR) was established on January 17, 1983, with the passage of the “Cancer Research Act” by the New Jersey State Legislature. NJCCR promotes significant and original research related to Cancer in New Jersey. The NJCCR functions as an independent body and serves as an important resource to providers and consumers of cancer services in the State.
The mission of the NJCCR is to ensure that the citizens of New Jersey receive the fullest benefit of our nation’s fight against cancer through the promotion and funding of research into the causes, prevention, and treatment of cancer.
In pursuit of this mission, NJCCR funds cancer research focused on fostering fundamental creative discoveries, innovation, and improving health disparities in New Jersey.
NJCCR’s primary objectives include:
Each year the NJCCR receives a state appropriation to facilitate its mission of advancing cancer research in New Jersey. Additional funding for research grants comes from donations made on New Jersey State Individual Tax forms line #71 and proceeds from the specialty Conquer Cancer license plates.

General Cancer Research Fund
Donating to the general cancer research fund supports cancer research grants administered by NJCCR.
Drive Hope Forward
Donate to support studies focusing on the causes, prevention, screening, treatment, and cure of childhood cancer.
Conquer Cancer License Plates
These plates spread a message of hope and strengthen New Jersey's fight against cancer.

NJCCR membership consists of 11 members who are volunteers appointed by the Governor.
New Jersey residents wishing to be considered for appointment may submit his/her name to the Governor’s Office of Appointments. Information on how to apply can be found at: https://www.nj.gov/governor/admin/bca.
