Reciprocity (EMT & Paramedic)

Paramedic Reciprocity

New Jersey does NOT accept reciprocity for Paramedic licensure if the applicant has no prior clinical experience as a Paramedic AND the educational program’s didactic instruction was delivered through distance learning and/or an asynchronous format. Traditional and Hybrid/Blended didactic instruction formats are accepted.

If you are currently enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, a Paramedic program outside of New Jersey and are uncertain whether it meets New Jersey's reciprocity requirements, it is strongly recommended that you contact the Office of Emergency Medical Services at reciprocity@doh.nj.gov for guidance.

The Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) defines asynchronous learning as instruction where the instructor and students engage with course content at different times and from different locations. This may include activities such as watching pre-recorded lectures, reading assigned materials, and participating in discussion boards.
