Traumatic Brain Injury Fund

Eligibility Requirements

People interested in applying to the Fund must meet the following eligibility requirements

  1. Clinical Requirements:
    • People who have experienced a Traumatic Brain Injury, also known as a TBI. A TBI is defined as an injury to the brain caused by a blow or jolt to the head, or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the normal brain function, where continued impairment can be demonstrated. A TBI does not include stroke, brain tumors, anoxia/hypoxia (lack of oxygen to the brain), aneurysm, degenerative diseases, birth trauma, etc.
    • Medical records and diagnostic test results to support a TBI diagnosis.
  1. Financial Requirements:
    • People who have less than $100,000 in assets. Assets include checking/savings accounts, stocks, bonds, trust funds, settlements, gifts or donations, life insurance policies, and ownership of property (other than primary residence). Assets do not include primary residence, primary car, and retirement accounts.
    • The TBI Fund is the last payer after private insurance and other forms of government supported aid (such as Medicaid/New Jersey FamilyCare, Medicare, GetCoveredNJ).
  1. Residency Requirements:
    • People who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
    • People who are residents of and living in New Jersey.
    • People who are seasonal residents of New Jersey are excluded.
    • People of any age, there is no age restriction.
